Blake A. Jurgens

For almost a decade and a half, Blake has worked in nearly every capacity in the publication of scholarship in the fields of biblical studies, theology, and early Jewish and Christian history.
After graduating from Calvin College in 2010 with a double major in philosophy and classics, Blake matriculated to Princeton Theological Seminary where he completed his Master of Divinity in 2013. During his time in Princeton, Blake worked as an editorial assistant and researcher with the Princeton Theological Seminary Dead Sea Scrolls Project. Following graduation, Blake was awarded a Fulbright Scholar Grant to continue his research at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In 2021 Blake completed his doctoral from Florida State University in Religions of Western Antiquity. While at Florida State, Blake also taught undergraduate courses on the Old Testament, New Testament, and World Religions.
In terms of editorial experience, Blake specializes in substantive editing, copy editing, proofreading, and indexing academic works on topics such as ancient Near Eastern studies, biblical studies, early Jewish and Christian studies, Greco-Roman History, Christian theology, and philosophy. Proficient in several ancient languages (e.g., Akkadian, Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Latin, Syriac), as well as modern German and French, Blake has edited a number of monographs and collections of scholarly essays published through academic presses, such as Baker Academic, Bloomsbury, Eerdmans, Mohr Siebeck, Society of Biblical Literature Press, and Wiley-Blackwell. In addition to these services, Blake has also provided indexing and bibliographic assistance for various projects.
Besides working as an editor, Blake has also experienced the world of academic publishing from the perspective of an author and researcher. Portions of Blake’s research have appeared in well-known peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Biblical Literature, the Journal for the Study of Judaism, and the Journal of Theological Studies. He has also contributed to several essay collections in scholarly books, as well as reference entries in encyclopedias, such as the Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception and Oxford Bibliographies. Blake has also presented his research at various international conferences and is currently working on his own monograph on ancient spiritual ecologies.
Blake currently lives in West Michigan. When he’s not reading or writing, he enjoys listening to eclectic music, running, enjoying a well-made cup of coffee, and playing with his kids, Asa, and Eliora.
