With a Masters of Divinity from Columbia Biblical Seminary, Columbia, SC, about 20 hours of graduate work at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC, and a Masters of Theology in New Testament from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, Charles Taylor has worked as a freelance, academic proofreader since 2007 on Bible commentaries including most of the Old Testament volumes in the revision of the Expositor’s Bible Commentary series, most of the volumes in the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament, three of the volumes in Hearing the Message of Scripture Old Testament series, and other commentaries, including those from the Word series and Swindoll’s Insight series.
Having translated the Greek New Testament in his devotions each year for more than 20 years, he has a firm knowledge of the Greek New Testament and also has a working knowledge of Hebrew. He has worked on Greek, Aramaic, and Ugaritic grammars, on a Greek lexicon, and on the revision of Silva’s New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology and Exegesis. In addition, he has proofread theology works by Bird and Horton and in such areas as the Trinity and justification by other authors including Schreiner. He is knowledgeable of the ChicagoManual of Style and the SBL Manual of Style. He has had some experience with the Mid-Atlantic style.
Over the years Charles has worked in many vocations: as printer, operating lithographic, flexographic, and letter presses; prison worker, serving as case manager for inmates and then as case analyst who wrote the files for inmates just coming into prison; preacher, serving as pastor and occasionally as church planter from 1979 to 2006 with several denominations, including the United Methodist, Evangelical Free Church, and Southern Baptist; professor in two small Bible colleges for a brief period; and more recently freelance proofreader for academic literature with HarperCollins and occasionally Baker.
Charles has been married for 38 years to his wife Liz and has four adult daughters and 10 grandchildren. He enjoys gardening, walking, hiking, bicycling, and camping. He is also interested in foraging. He occasionally fishes. Due to health issues, he eats only a plant-based diet. He and his wife love living in St. Augustine, Florida.
