Alyssa Allen

Writing, Editing, and Proofreading

Alyssa decided in high school she wanted to be a writer, and she hasn’t looked back. Since then she has worked as a newspaper reporter, staff writer for a college communications office, and currently as a freelance writer and editor.


Her specialties include writing catalog and cover copy for fiction and nonfiction books,

news and feature articles, newsletters, brochures, web copy and more. She also works as an editor, doing proofreading and substantive content editing

She has experience writing for Christian book publishers, corporations, small businesses, non-profit organizations, colleges and universities, hospitals and more.


Alyssa earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the State University of New York at Geneseo and went on to earn her master’s degree in journalism from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She worked for seven years as a newspaper reporter in New York and Pennsylvania, primarily covering city government and education. Alyssa then worked as a staff writer for Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she wrote and edited feature stories for the college’s alumni magazine. She also wrote a college staff newsletter and various marketing pieces.


Alyssa later served in the marketing department for a major Midwest law firm and as a public relations consultant and copywriter for a marketing and communications firm. She started her own writing and communications services business in 2005 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she lives with her husband and two children.
