Jamie Chavez
Developmental Editing,
Copyediting, Copywriting
Jamie Chavez worked for more than ten years in the publishing industry (Thomas Nelson Publishers) and more than twenty as a professional copywriter before striking out on her own as a freelance writer and editor in 2004. Her wealth of experience, and the depth and extent of her reading inform and improve every project she tackles, from developmental editing to copyediting and copywriting.
Jamie has edited some of the very best authors in the Christian marketplace, including novelists Jenny B. Jones, Cynthia Ruchti, Nancy Rue, and nonfiction authors Aaron Chambers, Rachel Held Evans, and Michael Hyatt—to name just a very few. Books she’s edited have become New York Times Best Sellers, won Christy and Carol Awards, and have been finalists for many other awards and honors. Jamie counts many national publishing houses as clients, including David C. Cook, NavPress, Thomas Nelson/Harper Collins Christian Publishing, WaterBrook Multnomah, Zondervan, and others.
Jamie has written more book blurbs than she can count—and she taps into her two decades of publishing experience in her popular blog about writing and editing, Read Play Edit, jamiechavez.com/blog/. And because she is a writer herself, Jamie has a deep respect for authors, which manifests in congenial relations and repeated requests from publishers and authors alike. Today her great joy in the writing life is editing—winning over even the most skeptical author with her light touch and sense of humor—working from her office in Middle Tennessee making good books better.
