During her twenty-five years as an English instructor, both at secondary and college level, Nancy Posey has been an avid reader and writer. Her book reviews have been published in the Charlotte [NC] Observer, the Raleigh News and Observer, Y’all Magazine, English Jouarnal, the Wild Goose Poetry Review, as well as her blog The Discriminating Reader (http://discriminatingreader.com).
Her poetry has appeared in such publications as Poet’s Market, Writer’s Digest, Branches, First Light, Wild Goose Poetry Review, Referential Magazine, and more, and she was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her first chapbook, Let the Lady Speak, was selected as the 2009 winner of the November Chapbook Challenge by Writer’s Digest’s Poetic Asides.
She has served as a freelance writer for several Thomas Nelson projects, including cookbooks, gift books, parenting and devotional books, and celebrity memoirs and biographies. She has also used her writing and editing skills on independent projects for authors of several books of fiction and nonfiction and for area businesses and institutions. A member of North Carolina Writers Network and North Carolina Poetry Society, Nancy continues to work with others to strengthen their writing skills and to complete publishing projects. She has also co-written lectures with her father, Ellis Coats, a minister in the Church of Christ.
Nancy has presented workplace presentations on improving communication skills, specifically for customer service employees in the furniture industry. She has presented a number of conference sessions on writing for educators and has led ladies’ retreats for congregations in North Carolina and Virginia.
She and her husband look forward to moving to Nashville, Tennessee, soon to be closer to family. She enjoys photography, printmaking, and playing Old Time mandolin. A lifelong avid reader, Nancy averages sixty or more books a year in all genres of fiction and nonfiction.
